    What is a Medic?

    The Title “Medic” isn’t a protected title and can be used by anyone.

    “Medic” is used by everyone from first aider’s, paramedic’s, registered nurse’s and medical doctor’s.

    How can you work out who your dealing with?

    The easiest way is to ask the medic, registered health providers are required to provide thier details in order to validate thier credentials.

    What is a EMT?

    An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is a diploma-trained clinician who delivers basic life support and some intermediate care in the prehospital setting. They are an essential part of the ambulance workforce, bridging the gap between First Responders and fully registered Paramedics.

    What is a Paramedic?

    In New Zealand, a Paramedic is a registered health professional who provides advanced emergency medical care.

    Since 2020, Paramedicine has been recognised as a regulated health profession under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCAA), overseen by the New Zealand Paramedic Council.

    All the paramedics in The Medic Company team ply thier trade on rescue helicopters or frontline ambulances around the central plateau. This means when they come to work for us thier clinical skills are sharp and the patients benefit.

    What is a Critical Care Paramedic?

    A Critical Care Paramedic in NZ is a postgraduate-qualified, registered paramedic who provides the highest level of prehospital care, including advanced airway management, pharmacology, and resuscitation. They usually work full time with rescue helicopter services, ambulance rapid response units and for the medic company when needed.
